Services For The Actor: Services For The Actor:

As a tenured Director in the Directors Guild of America, I have worked with many hundreds of actors.

By combining that experience with hypnotherapy, I am uniquely qualified to help you cope with the pressures and overcome the hurdles you experience everyday as an acting professional trying to make it in the entertainment industry.

Hypnotherapy is not intended to take the place of a great acting coach. Most successful actors spend a great deal of time learning their craft – and if hypnosis is used in conjunction with coaching, it empowers the actor with additional tools to use in their performances, and will change the limiting beliefs and behaviors that have stopped them from achieving the success they deserve as an artist.

Because hypnosis relies and works with the imagination to access the subconscious mind, actors have exceptional success with hypnotherapy in all areas of self-improvement, both personally and professionally.

For the actor, I offer programs to:
     · Overcome performance anxiety and stage fright
     · Increase concentration and focus
     · Improve line memorization techniques
     · Cope with constant rejection
     · Build and become the character
     · Get the competitive edge on auditions
     · Push past your self imposed limitations and fears
     · Attain your perfect weight and body image
     · Eliminate destructive habits (smoking, overeating, etc.)

I understand the process and am sensitive to your needs, and I will do my best to help you and your performances shine.

Since all actors are different, I work on a sliding scale depending on the number of sessions and type of therapy. Some actors just want to work on a specific issue or to jump-start a performance, while others choose to have me work with them throughout an entire run.

Creating Character:

I use a very specific procedure based on a study first published in "The International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis" in 1988, which explored using hypnosis to intensify "method acting."

The procedure involves hypnotic intensification of recognized acting methods first developed by Constantin Stanislavsky and later refined by his student Michael Chekhov (nephew of the playwright).

The technique has helped actors express nuances of character that are outside their usual range of skills. Using hypnosis, the actor learns to visualize and understand the character in great detail and begins emulating the motivations responsible for the character's behaviors.

Increasing Confidence:

Build the self-esteem and confidence that is absolutely essential to your success as an actor.

As a performer, you know that your best work occurs when you enter the slipstream of inspired creativity.  There you find yourself wholeheartedly living out the role as if you were born to play it.

Too often our subconscious fears drag us down and smother the skills necessary to be the best we can be.  These doubts and fears are built up over time and inhibit us from reaching our full potential as a performer.

Hypnosis can break through these limiting fears and doubts and help you reach new levels of confidence. After hypnosis, you will be able to put your mind into the state that you need just before auditioning or getting up on stage -- and do it with complete confidence.  You will be more relaxed, spontaneous, excited and ready to perform.

Using Your Emotions:

The art of acting requires truth and emotional accessibility; the ability to tap into emotions at will and project them into the hearts and minds of your audience.

There are many different ways in which actors can access their emotions more readily. Hypnotherapy provides a safe environment to get in touch with emotions that may have been tucked away and suppressed for years, and allows the actor to control those emotions and to call upon them to use in their performances.

Performance Anxiety:

Performance anxiety always works in the same way:

       1. You have to perform an activity that requires you to be 'in the moment'
       2. You start to worry about it, thinking about all the things that could go wrong
       3. The anxiety gets in the way of your own performance - a self-fulfilling prophecy

And to get rid of performance anxiety you have to get around this Catch-22: If you try not to worry, you are still in the wrong frame of mind for peak performance. You are still thinking, when you need to be experiencing.

And this is where hypnosis comes in.

Hypnosis gets rid of performance anxiety by getting you into the optimum state for peak performance, so that all those old worries simply become irrelevant.

Because hypnosis involves relaxation and a laser-like beam of attention, it trains your brain to quickly and easily get into the state where you can perform at your peak.

Whether you are an athlete running a race, an actor playing a role, a composer writing a symphony, or a student studying for an exam, hypnosis can be used to help you prioritize and achieve your goals.

Above all, hypnosis will make you confident by preventing destructive feelings of self-doubt, allowing you to keep your anxiety at exactly the right level to achieve the best performance results.

Line Memorization:

A fairly common challenge for many actors is memorizing lines.

There are several factors that hamper recall and effect learning.  Among those are concentration, depression, self-confidence, fatigue and, most notably, stress.  Stress makes recall difficult, if not impossible.

By improving your focus, confidence and concentration while reducing your stress and anxiety, your memory will be greatly improved.

There are also a number of memory improvement techniques (like “chunking” and “mnemonic” devices) that when combined with hypnosis open the gateway to your subconscious and dramatically increase your memory retention.

Overcoming Rejection:

Even the most successful actors are unemployed most of the time. For every role that an actor gets, they might try out for dozens that they don’t get.

Don’t let rejection become defeating, it’s just part of being an actor. Use hypnosis to empower you to not take rejection personally, and to keep your career on course.

Embracing Success:

The successful person is willing to do that which the unsuccessful person is not willing to do.

So, what is it that you are willing to do to succeed?  Are you willing to look deep inside and cleanse yourself of all those negative and limiting thoughts that keep you from realizing and owning the success that you deserve?

Don't let your limiting beliefs stop you from having the success you deserve.  Doubt is one of our biggest enemies, and there really is no room for doubt when it comes to success.  Using hypnosis, you will begin to see yourself as worthy, capable of working hard, winning auditions, acting all types of roles and creating the success you have always dreamed of.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.  We ask ourselves, ‘who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’  Actually, who are you NOT to be?  You are a child of God.  Your playing small does not serve the world.  There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.  We are all meant to shine, as children do.  We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.  It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.  And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.  As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Nelson Mandella and Marianne Williamson.

Stop Smoking:

If you are an actor and are still a smoker, stopping is the single most beneficial improvement that you can make in your career and your overall life.

It's well known that actor Matt Damon quit a 16 year smoking habit after three sessions of hypnosis. His best friend and collaborator, Ben Affleck used hypnosis to kick his habit also, after Matt urged him to try the method that helped him quit.

Affleck recalled on the Oprah Winfrey show in January 2008.. "You sit in, like, a Barker lounger and he (hypnotist) sips water and talks to you for an hour, and explains how nicotine is poison... All of a sudden, you thought' 'This is asinine that I've been doing this to myself for all these years'... My last cigarette was on November 10, 2005... I feel a huge difference in my health now that I don't smoke. I feel like I'm in better shape than I was five years ago."

Most actors use the excuse of not stopping smoking because they don't want to gain weight. This will not happen when you quit smoking using my hypnotherapy techniques. It's a scientific fact that smoking dehydrates your cells. The only weight gain is very minimal and is caused simply by the re-hydration of your cells.

I guarantee that you can stop smoking and not destroy either your physique or your body image.

What are you waiting for? Call 1-800-587-5640 and become smoke-free.
